    Stop Rolling Over, DFL

    By Jeff Fecke | September 5, 2007

Dear Speaker Kelliher and Sen. Pogemiller:

If you let Timmy roll you, he will roll you.

Look, I know that only Tee Paw can call a special session.  And I know he’s loath to do so with a gas tax on the agenda, because he doesn’t want to veto spending on roads and bridges, given that ours have a tendency to collapse without warning.  But if Timmy says he won’t call a special session unless you take the tax off the table, then tell him to go Cheney himself.

Look, not for nothing, but unless you’ve got some secret stash of a few hundred million dollars you haven’t told us about, we’re not going to solve the infrastructure and transportation problems without raising taxes somewhere.  That means you’re going to have to soldier up and challenge Gov. Timmy.  That means you have to actually have the courage of your convictions.

Flatly, you guys blew it during the regular session.  I need a reason to believe that the leadership in the House and Senate is worth backing.  Because right now, as a DFLer, I have to tell you that I’m at a loss to explain how 2007 is any different than 2005 legislatively.  And given the majorities you both have, that’s an unconscionable failure in leadership.  Unless things change, you both deserve to be fired by your caucuses.  Unless things change, you will be assuredly fired by your constituents.

      Absolutely!

The incredible shrinking DFL strikes again.

Of course ‘raising the gas tax’ polls poorly. Ask me if I want my groceries to cost more and I’ll say no. But you don’t see folks becoming vegan because milk keeps going up in price.

Ask folks if they want lower gas prics and no real assurance you’ll get home safely tonight, I think the answer will be different.

So why did the DFL cave? ‘Cause like an abused puppy, all they know is to go back to the master for another whuppin.

      Pathetic.
