The White Stuff
By Jeff Fecke | May 8, 2008
Look, there’s no real way to sugar-coat this, so let’s just say it: this is pretty low, Hillary:
“I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,” she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article “that found how Sen. Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me.”
Wow. Yeah. Those hard-working white Americans are foursquare behind you. The lazy, shiftless Negroes, however….
Yikes. This is just incredibly bad. It reminds me of Obama’s “claws come out” statement — it’s at best an extreme blindness to privilege, and at worst racist. Obama never apologized for the “periodically down” thing, so I don’t suppose Clinton will apologize for this. But she should, just as Obama should have.
Christ, I’m sick of ostensibly liberal candidates playing on our nation’s worst traits. Knock it off, both of you.

Senator Clinton is far too intelligent not to realize that she is playing on the very insular, provincial cultural myopia about which I so often complain. This sort of backwards sloganeering is what is keeping us as a country from seeing that, despite the fact that we have greatly helped much of the rest of the world “globalize” (in generally positive ways), we are failing to do it at home, too. That’s ultimately destructive.

[...] And believe me, my interpretation is incredibly generous. While Mark Kleiman at least gives her the benefit of the doubt and at least leaves open the possibility that she spoke poorly out of fatigue, Jeff Fecke is not so kind. [...]

Funny, I thought a big chunk of her support comes from RETIRED people. Webster’s defines retired as “withdrawn from one’s position or occupation : having concluded one’s working or professional career”. Is that currently hard working?

She is still in because she actually believes Obama cannot win in Nov. She believes that there is no way a black man can be elected Pres – its a fairy tale.
So now she goes for the nuclear option – to play the race card every way possible to show everyone that white america will not elect him – the fear factor, stirring up hatred, stirring up violence.
Of course she will fail because the party will eventually come to its senses and eject her – but she will do untold damage in the process.
Only the Superdels can prevent this final madness by backing Obama now.

How do you endure the pain? I mean you straddle the white or yellow line. You make excuses. Is this what happens to a man when they become a father? Maybe I will learn from you yet Great Straight Man. I bow before you!
