We Mustn’t Dwell, No, Not Today, Not on Steve Sarvi Day

    By Jeff Fecke | June 10, 2008

Maybe it’s a pipe dream to think the Dems could pick off John Kline’s seat in Minnesota’s second district. It’s probably the safest GOP district in the state (with the possible exception of the sixth), with Rep. Empty Suit firmly ensconced in a position that has not so much required him to campaign or express opinions in the past six years.

But 2008 is a Democratic year. And Kline’s opponent this year, former Watertown mayor and Iraq War vet Steve Sarvi, is just the kind of candidate who could upset The Guy Who Used To Carry The Nuclear Football.

Sarvi is set to give Kline his toughest challenge since Former Rep. Bill Luther, D-Minn., in 2002. He’s smart, articulate, and impervious to Kline’s favorite argument, that his opponents “lack toughness.” Moreover, he’s putting together the kind of professional, focused campaign that Kline has never really had to face.

Yeah, it’s going to be tough for Sarvi to win. But it’s not impossible, and frankly, the more we press “safe” incumbents like Kline and Michele Bachmann, the better the odds for freshmen like Keith Ellison and Tim Walz to cruise to re-election, and the better the chances for Ashwin Madia to flip the third to blue. And if Sarvi can pull off the upset? All the better.

So if you’ve got extra money you’re looking to give someone, drop by Sarvi’s ActBlue site and put a little money in the hopper.  And while you’re at it, check out other blogs writing in support of Sarvi today.
