Oh, Darn, That’s Too Bad, Or Something
By Jeff Fecke | January 19, 2009
Golly, this just makes me feel so bad:
Vice President Dick Cheney pulled a muscle in his back while moving boxes and will be in a wheelchair for Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony.
White House press secretary Dana Perino said Cheney was helping to move into his new home outside Washington in McLean, Va., when he injured his back.
His doctor recommended that he needed a wheelchair for the next couple of days.
Perino said that Cheney is OK otherwise.
“The vice president is looking forward to being there for tomorrow’s historic inaugural activities,” Perino said.
Well, I mean, heck, let’s be honest: moving a man-sized safe is hard work. Especially when there’s an actual man or two stuffed into it.
I was going to write something boilerplate about wishing Cheney a speedy recovery and stuff, but sorry, not in the mood. A little back spasm is nothing compared to what Dick and company put this country through in the past eight years. If he gets off with just a few days of rest and recovery, that leaves him in better shape than that guy he shot in the face. And let’s not even get into the blithe way in which the Vice President authorized torturing prisoners. No, Dick, you’ll have to look elsewhere for sympathy. I’m just grateful that, wheelchair or no, you’re going to be out of office by this time tomorrow.

Perhaps the wheelchair is just a ploy for sympathy.
