This has been another edition of What deekaa6 Said.
(What ______ Said concept shamelessly stolen from Duncan Black. I am aware of all internet traditions.)

That was a very moving story. Conjoined twins, one of them certain to die, the other certain to live a short and painful life. A mother who fully intended to have the baby, rather than abort out of convenience. So they went to Tiller’s clinic and paid him to dismember both children, and this was a difficult decision for them to make because they would have preferred that the babies both live.
My only question is, what prevented them from simply letting the children first be born, and then using the same razor-sharp cutting tools to dismember them at that time? What exactly?
The answer is that Tiller and the parents were able to get away with such wanton violence while the children were still in utero, because it’s legally permissible; but (possibly) they would NOT have gotten away with it once the babies had been born. Thus the fact that it was an abortion that ended those kids’ lives — rather than killing outside the womb — was more an act of evasion consequences, rather than courage.
Further, if Tiller and/or the parents had killed those kids outside of the womb, putting aside the legality of such an act, would we be hailing such an atrocity as an act of courage?

If you ever find yourself facing a a Caesarean delivery for stillbirths, with a variable prediction about how long they’ve been rotting, go right ahead and carry them. Otherwise, butt out! At this point the important thing is to save the life of the mother, her kidney function, and her fertility for the future.
